IMPORTANT E-ALERT - Implementation of the New E-Verify Regulation Delayed

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Government have struck a deal delaying the implementation of the new E-Verify regulation until February 20 .  E-Verify is the electronic employment eligibility verification system that is operated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service in conjunction with the Social Security Administration .  The new regulation has a significant impact on the hiring practices of certain federal contractor employers.  Indeed, the regulation requires all federal contractors with projects worth more than $100,000 and subcontractors with projects exceeding $3,000 to use E-Verify to verify the employment of all new hires as well as re-verify the employment eligibility of all workers hired after November 6, 1985.  Absent the delay, the regulation was slated to go into effect this Thursday.
