Obama Signs Four Pro-Union Executive Orders

On Friday, January 30, 2009, President Obama signed four executive orders overturning labor policies from the Bush administration. These Executive Orders:

1. Require federal contractors with $100,000 or more in federal contracts to post a comprehensive explanation of employees’ rights under the National Labor Relations Act;

2. Require successor federal contractors to offer current employees the first chance at jobs when contractors change;

3. Prevent contractors from being reimbursed for expenses incurred in activities designed to influence employees on whether to form unions or bargain for contracts; and

4. Ban companies in both the public and private sector from posting notices about workers’ rights to decertify unions.
